THEY baked cakes, climbed trees, read books and raised money for charity — and their hard work has finally paid off.
After completing an incredible 40 individual challenges throughout last year, a group of youngsters from Gatten and Lake Primary School, Shanklin, were presented with the 'best school' award by youth charity Challenge and Adventure.
Of the eight schools that took part in the Junior Challenge the Wight fundraiser, the Gatten and Lake youngsters impressed with their enthusiasm and the sheer number of challenges they completed.
Last Thursday (28) they were presented with medals provided by The County Press, which sponsored the event, and told of their prize — a trip to Parkhurst Forest with the Challenge and Adventure team for a day of activities.
Fundraising events manager Karen Eeles said: "They raised an incredible £591 and did an awful lot of challenges, and they were so excited to be taking p art. They've already come up with ideas for this year's event.
"We are asking school to aim for 25 challenges this year, because it's the charity's 25th anniversary.
"There's still time to take part, so get in touch and join in the fun."
