WARNINGS about the treacherous Luccombe coast have been repeated after two teenagers had to be rescued after they were cut off by the tide in darkness last night (Monday).
The boy and girl, both 13, had scrambled onto rocks and alerted coastguards to the fact they were trapped by the rising tide in the isolated area at 9pm.
Operations manager of Sandown and Shanklin Independent Lifeboat Mark Birch praised the children for doing the right thing and not trying to climb to safety in darkness.
"We told them to look out for our blue flashing light and they guided us in with the light on their mobile phone. We gave them some safety advice when we got to them and luckily they were safe and well."
The two were taken to Ventnor Haven.
