Film stars, footballers, pop singers and the like get a lot of criticism in the media these days and a lot of it is very much deserved, but Vinnie Jones turning up to back Harefield Hospital last week showed that some of them are not too big for their boots ( 'Film star supports Harefield protest' Times, Jan 10).
I remember Vinnie as being a 'combative' midfielder for Wimbledon in his playing days and although I haven't seen his films, I understand he is now carving himself a very decent career as an actor, but to my mind he's a hero not for that, but for remembering the hospital which saved his wife and taking the time to come back and say thank you.
Perhaps a few of the young stars now making their name in the profession he used to follow, who have been making newspaper headlines for all the wrong reasons, might like to look at how Vinnie behaves and follow his example.
