AMY Gibbs, of Bromley Athletic Club, continued her winning form with a double first at the Crawley Open meeting, just a month after her double sprint and hurdles win at the Crystal Palace Grand Prix meeting.

At Crawley, competing in the under-13 section, Amy stormed to victory in the 80 and 150-metre races in 11.0 and 20.6secs respectively.

Charlotte Osborne, winner of the Bromley AC cross-country event, made her point again by taking the Crawley under-11 event in her stride. She did not compete in the London mini-marathon trials, but looks a very bright prospect for the future.

Layla Hawkins secured another win in the under-15s' 150 metres in 19.6 secs, with Susan Jackson third in 21.3sdecs.

Layla had to overcome a recent disappointment in the pentathlon event. After winning the South of England event, she was predicted as a “certainty” for the gold in the National Championship.

However, due to an entry mix-up, she was not permitted to compete, but watch out Denise Lewis!

In the under-17 hurdles at Crawley, Katherine Dawson managed second place despite encountering an unexpected hazard her bra strap slipped down!

In the mens' under-20 event, Dave McKinlay was powerful in moving up from sixth to second place in the 1,000m event, clocking 2mins 45secs.

And Bromley AC's girls brought their cross-country season to a successful close by taking second place in the Parkwood League Road Relays at Canterbury.

Teams consisted of one runner each in under-13, 15, 17 and 20 age groups and Bromley A-team of Lauren Underwood, Holly Mumford, Gemma Baker and Nicola Baker not only took second place awards, but in the process, Nicola set the fastest lap time for the under 20s and Holly was second quickest in the under 15s.

A second girls team was entered for experience, and finished in eigth place. Katie Rhule ran well in her first competition for the club, followed by Carly Vineall, making a welcome return after illness, Susan Jackson and Fay Waller.

Unfortunately, the boys team was missing an under-20 runner, so only completed the first three stages.

Paul Simmons gave the team a good start, running 5mins 11.6secs in seventh position, Robert Bain gained one place with a fine run in 4mins 54.5secs and David McKinlay sped round the course in the third-fastest lap time of 4mins 15.6secs to bring the team up to fifth pposition overall.

With the cancellation of the final Kent Womens and Young Athletes Cross Country fixture due to the foot-and-mouth problem, team and individual placings have been decided on the first three fixtures.

And, and as a result, Bromley AC's under- 15 girls' team are Kent League Champions for the 2000-2001 season and Ella Fisher (under-15) and Nicola Baker (under-20) are individual champions.

If you are interested in joining Bromley AC, training takes place on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6.30-8.30pm at Norman Park Athletic Track, Bromley.
