Plans to create one management structure for all mental health services in Harrow have been approved in principle and should be in place by April 2000.

A spokesman for Harrow and Hillingdon Healthcare Trust said: "Services provided by more than one agency would act as a single service. As a result, the service will be able to respond more appropriately to an individual patient's needs."

The trust is working with Harrow Council and Brent and Harrow Health Authority to finalise plans by the end of the year. The three agencies believe that one management structure funded from a pooled budget would lead to greater communication, efficiency, and training and development opportunities for staff.

o  More than 100 people discussed the plans and other mental health issues at a conference at the Civic Centre held to solicit the views of service users, carers and the voluntary sector.
