A scheme to encourage safe walking to Brookland School in East Finchley was endorsed by councillors on Monday.
Members of the Finchley and Golders Green area environment sub-committee agreed the £6,400 plan, which features new roadworks in Ossulton Way and Hill Top.
They also agreed to consult over requests by residents and traders for waiting restrictions at Squires Lane in Finchley and at the junction of Poplar Grove on Colney Hatch Lane.
The council is to consider legal action against Eastern Electricity following the breakdown of street lighting in the Golders Green area.
Childs Hill councillor Monroe Palmer said unless the situation was rectified the faulty lights created "an ideal climate for street crime".
