FOUR people on the Isle of Wight have been recognised for their outstanding efforts for the community in the New Year Honours List revealed this week.
Educator, Alison Beane, 64, from Wilmington Lane, Freshwater, has been awarded the OBE for her work teaching children with special educational needs.
Long-serving Isle of Wight Councillor and chairman of the Isle of Wight Conservative Association and the Island’s Royal British Legion, Ian Ward, 66, has been awarded the British Empire Medal (BEM) as has 65-year-old Gillian Burnett from Ryde.
Isle of Wight Council member for Sandown South, Cllr Ward, a former British Army major was cited for his efforts helping to set up a voluntary bus driving scheme after the axing of Wightbus and Mrs Burnett has been honoured for her work with the Isle of Wight Historical Association.
Glyn Ellis, 58, from Shanklin has been awarded the MBE for services to maritime safety and the community on the Island.
Over the last 19 years, he has transformed the way the RNLI maintains and builds inshore lifeboats across the UK.
