TEENAGERS being cared for by Hertfordshire County Council have been finding out what it is like to work in local government.

Last month's Teenagers to Work Day, staged by social services, was helping to promote employment opportunities for young people in the care system by arranging for 15-year-olds to shadow staff during the working day.

Explaining the event, social services committee chairman Julia Price said: 'Like all good parents, we in the county council aim to help the children and young people in our care to prepare for grown-up life.

'We want to open up more opportunities for them to get work experience, not just in local government but in commerce and industry as they approach school leaving age.'
