Police are still appealing for witnesses after a 19-year-old man was charged with stabbing a 17-year-old youth to death on the Grahame Park Estate.

James Peregrino, who has family in Barnet and Grahame Park, was taken to Barnet Hospital after police and paramedics were called to an alleyway known as the red path near Bodmin and Blackburn Houses, off Lanacre Avenue, at about 6.30pm on Saturday last week.

He was pronounced dead at 8pm, and a post-mortem examination on Sunday found he had died from a single stab wound to the abdomen.

Two youths were arrested on Sunday in connection with the incident. One was released and the other, Delroy Joseph, from Melville Road, Willesden, was charged with murder and appeared at Hendon Magistrates Court on Tuesday. Two other men were arrested yesterday and are being questioned at Colindale police station.

Dozens of flowers, candles and messages were left in memory of Mr Peregrino at the bottom of a stairwell to a block of flats near the path. One of his friends, who did not wish to be named, said: "He was always happy. He was such a nice person. He never went out looking for trouble. He had a lot of friends."

Ronaldo Sangil, who was asked by a group of girls to phone an ambulance, said: "I don't see trouble here normally. It is quiet.

"I went out and saw him lying there. He was just moaning. He was in a lot of pain. Then the ambulance came. There were a lot of people around.

"Lots of people have been coming and laying flowers, and they have been holding vigils. I think he has got a lot of friends."

Inquiries are being handled by the Serious Crime Group, and any witnesses are asked to contact Detective Chief Inspector Ken Bell on 020 8358 0600, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
