Leopard will not compete in Round the Island Race 2014. Picture by Peter Boam.
THE largest boat in this year’s JP Morgan Asset Management Round the Island Race has pulled out, and with it Sir Ben Ainslie’s hopes of setting a new record.
The super maxi yacht Leopard has pulled out of tomorrow’s (Saturday) race owing to rigging failure. Last year she broke her own monohull record, rounding the 50nm course in three hours, 43 minutes and 50 seconds.
Sir Ben will instead be racing on the Farr 45 Rebel in the first start at 6.30am.
Despite regret at not having the chance to go for both course records — having broken the multihull record last year — he said he was looking forward to what potentially might be a more relaxing ride than he had last year.

Heres hoping my dear friend and neighbour, Richard and his pal Geo, in Geo's yacht "The Whopper" GBR 363, have a good race and hopefully - win!
