THE POLICE have announced a £1.5 million deal for a new headquarters.

Hampshire Constabulary, which includes the Isle of Wight, has bought a HQ in Winchester city centre.

The deal with previous owners, Hampshire County Council, to buy Mottisfont Court in the High Street was finalised on Monday (19).

A spokeswoman said it was the first purchase as part of an Estate Development Programme (EDP), aimed at providing modern and appropriate facilities, while achieving value for money.

Their previous HQ on Romsey Road, Winchester, will be put up for sale in 2014 and the money received will be invested in the capital funds for new police buildings and refurbishment of existing ones.

The refurbishment of Mottisfont Court is due to start in 2013 and it should be completed and ready for occupation by up to 200 HQ staff by the end of 2013.
