Chessington and Hook Utd 3

Ash United 1

When Ash scored easily after 15 minutes, it looked as though they would repeat the scoreline when these two sides last met - in the League Cup Final last year when Ash won 5-0. But that goal inspired the home side to roll up their sleeves and give a magnificent performance in front of their own supporters.

Ten minutes later, Kevin May rose above everyone to score with his head from Paul Keeley's free kick.

David Dow nearly scored - his effort kept out by a defender who cleared off the goal line. Five minutes before half time, Neil Wicks rounded the goalkeeper to put Chessington 2-1 up at half time.

Ash couldn't cope with the pace of Wicks and Wood up front, and with the home defence keeping the Ash forwards at bay, Chessington deservedly got their third goal when Alan Wood scored from a cross by Wicks. Wood might have had a hat trick if two earlier efforts had been on target, but 3-1 will keep them talking at Chalky Lane about this performance.

Chessington and Hook Utd 6

"Football's a game of two halves" - that's what the pundits say, and this game was no exception!

The first half was a game of cat and mouse, with neither side creating any chances in the sunshine. What a difference a substitute can make! Casuals came out for the second half and immediately attacked, their striker hitting the crossbar with a fine effort.

Two minutes later, substitute Neil Wicks, on for Clive Gash, ran on to a through ball and, cutting inside, slotted it past the home keeper. Alan Everett then put Wicks through down the right and the youngster, beating the home defence, shot inside the near post for number two.

Wicks completed his hat-trick inside 12 minutes of the second half when good work by Alan Wood set him up to slot the ball into the corner. Steve Bowden then found himself in the penalty box and pulled the ball back for Alan Wood to score easily. Chessington continued to attack with Casuals not offering much resistance, and David Dow was pulled down in the box.

Up stepped Wicks to score his fourth goal - a personal triumph. Chessington were not finished yet, and scored their sixth goal when Kevin Stone rose above everyone with a fine header from a corner by David Dow to equal last year's scoreline.
