A PRISONER at HMP Isle of Wight has died while in transit to another prison.

The man was being transferred from the prison's Camp Hill site to HMP Lewes, Sussex, on Monday.

He was found collapsed on arrival and, despite efforts to resuscitate him, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A spokesman for GEOAmey, a company that transports prisoners on behalf of the Ministry of Justice, said: "We can confirm a man was found collapsed on arrival at HMP Lewes at 1pm on January 28.

"Our officers attempted to resuscitate him but sadly he was pronounced dead at 1.15pm.

"The family of the deceased has been informed and we are working with Sussex Police to investigate this incident."
