A 54-year-old man was admitted to hospital in a critical condition after a road accident outside the Waggon and Horses pub, in Watling Street, on Monday night.
The man, from St Albans, was leaving the pub's car park in a green Rover Metro when his vehicle was involved in a collision with another car, at 9.44pm.
The other vehicle was a Peugeot 206 on its way to Elstree, which was driven by a 19-year-old man from Shenley, who suffered minor injuries in the collision.
Firefighters were called to cut the driver of the Rover free, and he was taken to Barnet Hospital, where, on Tuesday, he was said to be in a critical condition.
Anyone who witnessed the accident is asked to contact PC Matthew Franklin on 01923 472388.
