Residents left without power

SOME residents in the Wootton and Binstead areas have been left without power this afternoon (Wednesday).

A powercut was reported in the area at around 1pm and Southern Electric Power Distribution said they hoped to restore power soon.

*A spokesman said the powercut was caused by a fault on the overhead cable and 1,300 customers had been affected.

He said most customers should have their power restored this afternoon.

In a statement issued at 3.21pm the company said: "Our forecast indicates that more high winds will hit our network throughout the day.

"We have prepared for this event and have a large number of extra engineers and support staff working to restore power.

"Our weather forecasting system had highlighted this event a number of days ago and our resiliance plans had been put in place far in advance including the mobilisation of extra engineers and support staff."

It said urged anyone without power to contact call 0800 072 7282.
