RYDE Inshore Rescue were called out last night to reports of someone entering the water.
The crew were launched at 5.30pm following a call from a member of the public.
After 90 minutes of searching, no one was found other than a dog walker on the outer bank and a lone seal. The crew returned to the station.
Ryde Inshore Rescue said: "Although this ended up as a false alarm, if you are ever see of think you see a person in trouble in the water call the coastguard."
The incident was captured on the Isle of Wight webcams.
