TRAFFIC wardens handed out more than 17,000 tickets in the last three months of 2001.
The attendants exceeded their requirement by more than 2,000 and earned Hillingdon Council nearly £500,000.
Councillors were told that tickets issued had leapt following the recruitment of seven new wardens in November of last year.
Hillingdon Council is expecting to net more than £2 million from parking charges by the end of the financial year. The council's in-house parking attendant team was awarded its contract in July 1999. In its first year 64,571 motorists were ticketed. In its second year, it handed out 59,183 fines.
