MOTORISTS will need to take care on the roads as sleet from Storm Ana falls across the Isle of Wight this morning (Monday).

Heavy sleet began to fall as temperatures dropped to 2C at around 7am, with occasional strong gusts.

Red Funnel and Wightlink's services are running to schedule, but Hovertravel services are running with a short (less than 15 minutes) delay due to the weather.

Storm Ana, named by Spain's national meteorological service, was predicted to hit Britain from France this morning, bringing rain, sleet and high winds, with the possibility of snow.

The Met Office say it will be windy, with occasional rain, with temperatures reaching a high of 4C and a low of -1C.

Up to 6mm of rain could fall, with winds occasionally gusting to over 65km per hour.

Island Roads had no problems to report early this morning.

The AA advise motorists to take it slow in sleet and snowy conditions, with stopping distances ten times longer and making gentle manoeuvres.
