SOUTHAMPTON Football Club has teamed up with Christ the King College to launch a new education programme on the Isle of Wight.
The Saints Foundation will be launching the club’s new education programme in September, which includes a course on the Isle of Wight, hosted by the Newport school.
While studying a BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport and Training every week, over two years, students will improve their footballing skills, knowledge and tactical awareness, along with receiving a first-class education.
Students will do between six and eight hours training weekly, provided by an FA qualified coach.
The programme will include work experience placements and playing competitive fixtures at the likes of St Mary’s Stadium and at the club’s Staplewood campus.
An open evening for prospective Island candidates will be held at Christ the King College at 7.30pm on Wednesday.
Andrew Hunt, the programme’s co-ordinator, said: "Students will learn from the best. This is the perfect platform for students wanting to enhance themselves on and off the pitch and progress with whichever career route they desire."
Existing students on the programme have gone on to work for The Saints Foundation in a variety of roles — most notably, within the club’s current educational set-up.
A foundation degree course in community football and coaching development, which can offer football scholarships in the United States, is also available.
