COMPETITION TIME: Two local schools are to compete in the final of the United Nations' Association Schools' Debating Competition on May 17. Teams from Caterham school, in Harestone Valley Road, and Wilson School in Mollison Drive will battle it out at Croydon Council chambers. The final follows six months of competition between senior pupils from Croydon, Sutton, Reigate and Warlingham and other local areas.

TALK ON CARE: Croydon Retired Peoples Campaign is holding a forum on the long-term care of the aged at Ruskin House, on Monday, May 8. Speakers include the Chief executive of the Croydon Health Authority, Kevin Barton and Councillor Paula Shaw, chairman of Croydon social services committee. The meeting begins at 11am.

ANYONE FOR TENNIS: Britain's biggest ever free tennis campaign, Play Tennis, gets into swing in Croydon this week. Whitgift School, Haling Park, will host the Lawn Tennis Association's event on May 6 and 7. It offers a free introduction to anyone interested in the game. It is hoped up to 100,000 people will take part in the promotion over two weekends this year.
