UPDATED 11.18ELECTRICAL storms and torrential rain on the Isle of Wight caused chaos last night (Tuesday).
A fire and rescue spokesman said they started receiving calls with reports of flooding around the Island at 8.28pm.
Fire crews attended to flooding at West Hill Road in Ryde, Cemetery Road in Lake, High Street in Niton and to an electricity sub pole which was struck by lightning in Brook Close, Sandown.
The emergency crews pumped the water and the spokesman said it drained away well and there was no major damage as far as they were aware.
Calls were also received about flooding in Borthwood Lane in Newchurch, New Road in Lake, Ranelagh Road in Lake and Oaklyn Gardens in Shanklin, and were passed over to Island Roads.
*An Island Roads spokesman said that staff had worked throughout the storm and had responded to 19 reports of overflowing drains and flooding.
They also said that all four road sweepers were out, the gully tanker cleared drains and three teams of district responders were out all night providing temporary traffic management, clearing trees, unblocking drains and delivering sandbags.
The spokesman also said that incidents were reported across the Island but that the worst affected area was The Bay area.
