A NEW wildlife and nature area has been opened at an Isle of Wight school.
Staff, pupils, parents and other members of the community gathered at Chillerton and Rookley Primary School for the opening of a new wildlife and nature area on Saturday.
It has been called Wildlife Wonderland, which was chosen by pupil, Ellie Judd, eight, who won a naming competition.
The school secured a £9,200 lottery grant to fund the project and it worked alongside the Hampshire and IW Wildlife Trust to transform the site, which was in a poor condition before a new pond, dipping platform and seating area was put in.
Pre-school manager, Christina Sweatman, said: "It looks fantastic, we were really pleased with how it turned out and it is nice to see the children enjoying it."
The area will be used by the children during school time, however it also includes a community allotment.
