HEAVY rain, high winds and high tides could cause flooding on parts of the Isle of Wight in the coming days, the council has warned.

A council spokesman said: "The Met Office is forecasting heavy rain and high winds at times over the next few days and this combined with high tides has the potential to cause coastal flooding in some areas."

Sandbags will be available from the following locations from mid-morning tomorrow:

•Cowes: St Mary’s car park

•East Cowes: Well Road roundabout/junction with Castle Road

•Ryde: Westhill Road/junction with The Strand

•Yarmouth:  Long stay car park

•Newport: The junction of Quay Street/Sea Street

The council said it would update its Facebook and Twitter feeds regularly updated over the weekend. They can be found at www.facebook.com/isleofwightcouncil and www.twitter.com/iwight
