WEBCAMS are set to be placed at the Isle of Wight’s iconic landmarks to broadcast its beauty to potential visitors.
It is hoped the 24/7 live feeds will be shared on social media, encouraging tourists to come and see the sites for themselves.
Broadband access withstanding, the cameras could be placed at Tennyson Down, The Needles and the Island's favourite beaches.
WightFibre has agreed to pay for the first six cameras.
Called Windows on the Wight, the idea was suggested by Isle of Wight Councillor and Ryde businessman Wayne Whittle.
A member of the Visit Isle of Wight marketing board, which has backed the project, Cllr Whittle said: "I like to go on Google Earth and look around, and so do other people. People can see what it's like and will want to visit, or even move here."
Visit Isle of Wight chief executive David Thornton said cameras could be placed at more locations if the pilot project was a success, and said he was keen to hear suggestions for possible locations.
