ISLANDERS are going pink to support the West Wight Sports and Community Centre’s bid to win £43,000 of National Lottery funding following its appearance on Meridian News last week.
It is one of five groups in the Meridian region in the People’s Projects competition.
However, it needs Island votes to win the prize, which will provide training opportunities in its community cafe with its 'COOK’ project which aims to use the funds to provide training and work experience.
Centre manager Clare Griffin said: "We’re campaigning like mad to get the votes here and one thing we’re doing is photographing people in one of our pink 'Vote West Wight’ T-shirts.
"We’ve already got Dame Ellen MacArthur, Rob da Bank, the Freshwater fire crew, swimmers, fitness instructors, hairdressers, kick boxers, people doing judo and lots more."
Voting, which ends on Monday, can be done at www.thepeoplesprojects.org.uk and by post with forms available at the centre.
