I AM writing with reference to your article Out of Bounds (June 11 edition).

I have lived in Harlow since 1955 when Harlow Council was first formed. The population then was less than 20,000, and the resulting council small.

As the population grew, new wards were automatically formed with new councillors to represent them.

Harlow is still growing, but Church Langley is denied its democratic right to have its own councillors, making representation half that of other areas of Harlow.

By 2001, Church Langley will be bigger, making its representation even less.

Church Langley contributes more council tax to Harlow Council than any other area in Harlow of a similar size, but residents are not allowed to have their own councillors. This is not democracy. So why doesn't Harlow Council petition the Secretary of State so we can see real democracy?
