TWO pupils from Hextable Junior School performed outstandingly well in the recent Kent Primary Schools Cross Country race at Maidstone.
Philip Butler won gold in the boys' race, while class-mate Amy Smith won a silver with her second-place finish.
Both are aged 11 and it was the best the school has ever achieved in the annual event, sponsored by Walkers.
Taking place over a one-mile course, there was 60 runners competing in each race and Hextable had two teams of four and a Year 5 team of three.
Amy is a member of Dartford Harriers, while Philip, who is also a member of Whiteoaks Swimming Club, is now preparing for the Kent Swimming Champion-ships to be held next month.
Philip said: "I thought I would win the race and I was quite confident.
"Last year I was beaten on the line, so I was determined to win this time round."
Amy said: "I didn't think I'd do so well. I thought maybe I would finish in the top ten, but my weekly training with Dartford Harriers helped a lot."
