WELL-KNOWN Island butcher Robin Anderson Gustar died at Earl Mountbatten Hospice last week, aged 70.
The youngest son to Alice and Skip Gustar, Andy, as he was better known, was born in Newport on January 7, 1947.
He attended West Street school and Priory Boys school, before leaving school at 15 to work at Ventresses Butchers as a Saturday boy — a trade he would continue to work in for his entire life.
He took over Hamiltons Fine Foods, with Andy Carney, on the retirement of Roy and Shirley Hamilton in 1994, which he ran for 24 years.
Mr Gustar was founder and bandmaster of the Vectis Corps of Drums Marching Band, and won prizes at various competitions over the past 25 years. He was also a keen Rotarian at Vectis Sunrise Rotary club in Newport.
He leaves his five children, six grandchildren, a brother, four nieces and a nephew.
His funeral will take place at Newport Minster on Wednesday at 1pm, followed by family and close friends attending the IW Crematorium. A wake will be held at Newport Conservative Club.
