Forty-eight keen athletes from Hayes, Green Street Green, Keston C.E. and Wickham Common Primary schools lit up the inaugural Hayes Primary Sports Hall Challenge.

A joint venture between Hayes Primary School, backed by an Awards for All' grant, and Bromley Athletic Club, this new event provided a superb vehicle to get school Sports Hall activities seeded in the borough.

Some superb displays were put in by all six teams competing, namely: turbo javelin, standing triple-jump, vertical jump, speed bounce, flat races and under/over obstacle races.

So close was the contest that by the last set of under/over races, only two points separated leaders Green Street Green I and Hayes I. But after some very exciting races, where the lead was changing frequently, Hayes I finally emerged as victors. Results: 1 Hayes I, 2 Green Street Green I, 3 Keston C.E., 4 Wickham Common, 5 Hayes II, 6 Green Street Green II.

A Bromley AC organiser said: "It was a real pleasure putting on this very exciting event. The children all did their best, demonstrating collectively some very real athletic potential, and did it all with a very appropriate attitude.

"They are all a tribute to their schools and, as a club, we look forward eagerly to the next one of these Sports Hall events."
