SURFING
A COUPLE of IW Surf Club members travelled to the Witterings to take part in the South Coast Surf Championships and both had podium finishes.
Heavy seas and onshore winds saw the contest postponed until Sunday which was still pretty challenging with white water breaking continuously.
Alan Reed entered the longboard division and after putting on a fine show of drop knee turns and long rides in his semi, failed to find the same form in the final and with only one high scoring wave, had to settle for third.
Zoe Sheath, 14, fared somewhat better in the junior under-18s.
Final positions were judged on overall wave scores and Zoe took second against her fellow British squad team rider, Newquay boy Josh Hughes, who was visting relatives in the area.
She was also pleased to be awarded first for the women’s under-18 placings in this the final event of the year.
It is hoped that the IW Surf Club will host the South Coast Championships next year.
