MOTORCYCLE TRIALS

ALAN and Chris Stay proved their worth at the annual IW Motorcycle Club Boxing Day Trial last week, at Shorwell Chalk Pit.

Their combined scores earned them the main father-and-son prize, after Chris won the expert class and Alan came third in the clubman class.

The slippery conditions at Shorwell were, understandably, not to everyone’s liking but great scores were posted throughout the day.

Chris found some grip and actually finished the expert class without dropping a single mark, while his best friend George Gosden was not far behind with just two marks lost.

Jack Ayres made a welcome return to the trials’ scene with five marks dropped and third place.

In the clubman class, Will West dropped just one mark, with Simon Newnham second on seven marks, and Alan third on 23 marks.

Adam Brodie made a surprise appearance on a British Bike and although he found the course tough, his total score of 119 was still enough to win.

Nick Symes took the twinshock class on 16 from second-placed Stephen Wood on 64, while in the novice class, Tony Read won with a score of 16, six less than Jason Elford in second, and ten ahead of third-placed Vince Richardson.
