TWINS Tom and Joe Wade had excellent starts to their track season at the first of the British Milers’ Club’s Grand Prix meetings, at Watford.

Tom was up first in a very competitive 3,000m steeplechase. He initially sat back from the lead in the early stages but with Irish international Rory Chesser and Ieuan Thomas from Wales pushing the pace, Tom tucked in with the leaders.

Still looking very strong going into the last 800m he made his move on the final back straight to sprint to victory in a time of 8.49.25, and put him 13th in the European rankings.

Joe opted for the 5,000m and was placed in the strong A race.

He was soon into his running and stuck with the leading group of ten athletes, which included internationals Adam Hickey and Ryan McCloud.

Joe mustered up a fast last lap to finish eighth in an excellent 14.18.72.
