BEACH soccer on the IW has been given a boost, with the award of a grant to buy new goals.

IW Beach Soccer successfully applied to the IW Foundation for money to buy new, FIFA-approved goals for junior and senior matches.

Luke Kerr, IW Beach Soccer general manager, said: “We are delighted to secure this funding at the end of a successful 2017, which has been a landmark year for us on so many fronts.

“I would like to thank Nicola Vaughan at Island Roads, who has been amazing in supporting our application, along with Ben Meakin too.”

The IW Foundation is jointly funded by Ringway Island Roads, Meridiam, VINCI UK Foundation and VINCI Concessions, who make up the partnership behind Island Roads.

Meanwhile, five IW-based beach soccer players helped Arsenal Beach Soccer Club win the seventh edition of the Copa Lagos in Nigeria.

Scott Lawson, Tom O’Neill, Tommy Jackson, Jake Younie and Cam O’Rourke all played their part.

Arsenal beat Kebbi BSC 11-9 but then lost 3-2 to Pepsi Football Academy.

However, they won their final game 9-5 against Gidi Sharks to take the trophy, which adds to Arsenal’s national championship, UK Super Cup, Dorset Cup and the Dunkirk International Cup.
