CYCLINGAFTER a busy and competitive season — with more than 50 events on the Island — Vectis Roads Cycling Club (VRCC) held its annual prize presentation.
There were 54 cycling events promoted by the club, with time trial distances ranging from ten miles to 100 miles, and these were open to club members, members of other IW clubs and mainland guests.
Two honorary memberships were presented to the long-serving committee member John Law, who is retiring, and regular timekeeper Martin Hall.
Timekeeper John Dadswell was awarded the Cycling Time Trials (CTT) Certificate of Honour for his many years of service to the club, and his help at cycling events across the South.
The majority of racing honours went to Paul Martin, Michelle Lock and Liz Dunlop.
Paul, a prolific competitor, was awarded the men’s racing mileage cup (482 miles), men’s DDR Smith Memorial 2012, men’s 30-mile Championship, the men’s ten-mile points competition, the men’s 25-mile points competition, the Grimpeurs Cup and the men’s 50 and 100-mile Champion-ships.
Liz won the ladies’ racing mileage cup with 145 miles, the ladies’ DDR Smith memorial event, ladies’ 10-mile points competition and the ladies’ 25-mile points competition.
Michelle Lock, a newcomer to competitive cycling, was second in the ladies’ racing mileage cup (145 miles), the ladies’ ten-mile points competition and second in the ladies’ 25-mile points competition.
Other awards went to Dave Cooper, Alan Bennett, Tim Matthews, Daron Perkins, Mark Blanchard and Simon Lewis.
After a successful season VRCC are looking forward to a bigger year next year, and will be promoting a full season of competition in 2013.
Membership to VRCC is open to all Island-based cyclists.
