CYCLING

IT WAS a busy week for members of the Wightlink-LCM Systems Cycle Race Team with three events on the mainland and the IW.

It started with the Castle Combe Circuits race in Wiltshire, where in the fourth category race, Ian Hayden had a top 20 finish and Martin Sanders, in only his second road race, finishing strongly in the main peloton.

In the third category race, Matt Allsopp, Sam Baker, James Ebdon, Kev Foster and Ed Sutton all made their mark in a high-paced race featuring 145 riders, and all finished safely in the pack.

The next day, seven of the team competed in the Vectis RCC Ningwood ten-mile time trial.

Winning overall was Simon Ambrosini, who rode first and set a blistering time of 23.12. Finishing second was James Ebdon in 23.35, with Hayden coming seventh in 24.49, and Sanders riding a time of 25.11 for 12th, and Baker a place behind in 25.17. Ed Sutton rode a solid time trial to take 15th place in 25.31. Faye Faber completed the course in 26:29 to take top spot for the team in the women’s competition.
