RYDE prevailed in a reduced-overs match against St Cross Symondians III in Hampshire County Division 1 on Saturday.

Rain delayed the start and the game got under way at 2pm with the overs reduced to 40 per side.

Hosts Ryde were asked to bowl and a superb display of swing and seam bowling from Ben Gregory (1-11) and Stuart Robertson (3-13) put the visitors in trouble early on. Batting became easier as conditions improved but with Sam Rockley (3-35) also keeping things tight the visitors could only reach 141 all out from 36 overs.

In reply, Ryde got off to a great start with Ben Wadmore (23) and Sam Rockley (29) kicking things off but it was when Lawrence Tolfrey (44) came to the crease that victory seemed assured.

His 44 came from just 35 balls to set up Ryde for the win in just 26 overs.
