THE rowing regatta season gets underway this weekend, with back-to-back events on the Isle of Wight.
Ryde's event marks the 40th anniversary of the town's first Hants and Dorset ARA Championship regatta, held in June 1977.
Ryde and Shanklin had jointly organised regattas in Yaverland until it was held in Ryde in 1977, as a one-off, as part of the club's centenary celebrations.
However, the event's success led to the Isle of Wight Rowing Weekend being established and both clubs have staged them ever since.
Saturday's event will feature more than 100 crews and scullers, competing in a packed programme of races.
The best vantage point will be by Ryde canoe lake.
The regatta will start at 11.45am, with prizegiving scheduled to take place at around 5.30pm.
Sunday's event in Shanklin, held in front of the seafront club's headquarters, gets underway at 11am.
