THE society had a most enjoyable evening when Linda Pithin paid her third visit.
Not only is Linda a charming and a very accomplished speaker but her underwater photography is truly magnificent. On this occasion, she showed a selection of slides shot in the Carribean, Red Sea and Indian Ocean.
As one would expect, many of her subjects were very brightly coloured.
However, the subtle camouflaging techniques adopted by some species were also well demonstrated. For example, a species of sea horse which merged so well with the seaweed to which it was attached that, even in the projected slide, it was difficult to locate the fish.
Linda also explained while some species such as barracuda and Murray eel have awesome reputations they relatively harmless even at close quarters.
The society meets every Wednesday at Clockhouse Methodist Church Hall. For details contact Peter on 020 8462 7306.
