Detectives are hunting a violent attacker who put two women in hospital.

Police say the women, 78 and 46, were chatting at an address in Childs Hill on Monday lunchtime last week when the man barged into the house.

A spokeswoman said: "He physically attacked them. He punched them in the head. The 78-year-old suffered severe cuts to the face and multiple bruising."

The man is described as black, 30, 6ft tall and very slim. He was wearing a light padded army type top and light coloured bottoms. He escaped with a wedding ring and jewellery.

The 46-year-old was in hospital for two days, while her friend, whose injuries are not serious, is still recovering in hospital.

Detective Constable John Sim said: "This was a particularly distressing and nasty burglary. It is quite upsetting to have to deal with something like this."

Anyone with information can contact DC Sim on 0181 733 5886.
