THE inquest has been held into the death of a Dartford Councillor who was killed at a black spot on the A2.
Geoffrey Jones, of Hasted Road, Greenhithe, died early on March 12, 2001, when a lorry crashed into his car, stopped near the Danson interchange.
Lorry driver Barry Wood, from Sittingbourne, told an inquest at Croydon Law Court he thought the car ahead of him in the darkness was moving. He said: “I saw a left hand indicator on and assumed the driver was about to turn off. I didn't pull out because I was going up hill and I thought there would be no need to overtake.”
Crash investigator PC Gary Lawrence said the marks on the road surface showed 61-year-old Mr Jones's Honda had been parked in the first lane of the three lane dual carriageway when it was struck. Two other witnesses said they thought Mr Jones's Honda was on the hard shoulder.
A post-mortem examination showed Mr Jones, who died of multiple injuries, had severe coronary disease and may have pulled over because of chest pains.
A verdict of accidental death was recorded.
