ISLE of Wight golfer Conor Richards dreams of playing at The Masters one day after he was part of a student-led scheme to help out at the championships at the famous golf club in Augusta, Georgia, last weekend.

The 19-year-old is making the most of being a student in the United States, where he has a scholarship at Lander University, South Carolina, studying for a masters degree in sport and business management, alongside his involvement with the country’s collegiate golf competition.

Conor, of Sandown — a member of Shanklin and Sandown Golf Club — played at the Peach Belt Championships in Florida recently and scored well.

He said: “The Masters was unbelievable. Watching it on TV and hearing about it doesn’t do it justice, until you’re actually there. The undulations are crazy and every blade of grass is in perfect condition.

“Going to Augusta has motivated me so much and makes me want to better myself. Hopefully one day I can be there playing.”
