ISLE of Wight-based international rally driver Richard Weaver has formed a new rally team, Wight Rally Sport.

In the team's first outing, in the Wethersfield Stages, Essex — an event used in preparation for the 2019 ACSMC Tarmac Championships — Weaver, with co-driver James Pink, found the new EVO 6 to be, in Weaver's words, "blistering quick and, just as importantly, reliable" as they finished second in their class and sixth overall.

The trophy Richard Weaver and James Pink won at the Wethersfield Stages rally in Essex.

With six stages of ten miles each over concrete runways and side roads, the Wethersfield Stages was "fast and technical", despite Weaver and Pink pushing the car to — and sometime past — the limits of adhesion with them occasionally going off the track.

Wight Rally Sport plans to take part in more competitive rallying before next year's ACSMS Tarmac Championships, starting with the Challenger stages, tobe held at Bovington, Dorset, on Sunday, November 18.
