AFTER showing some scintillating recent form, Ventnor slipped to their second Southern Premier League defeat of the season — a three-wicket reverse in their Division One clash at Sarisbury Athletic on Saturday.

The home team had Ben Woodhouse’s side in trouble early on — and when 39-2 became 70-6, the innings was in disarray.

Zeph Wells (26) and Rob Snell (23) showed some resistance, but an all out total of 127 with more than 16 overs remaining represented a well below par display from the Islanders.

Sarisbury had reached 24 without loss before they too lost a flurry of wickets as Ventnor fought back.

In the end, the efforts of Ben Attrill (2-34), Snell (2-17) and Charlie Calloway (2-19) were all to no avail as an eighth wicket partnership of 30 led the hosts to victory with plenty of overs to spare.

In Hampshire 1, Ryde slumped to their third loss of the season at Hythe and Dibden — but it did not stop Tom Durman from having a superb game with bat and ball.

Hythe & Dibden posted a decent 300 all out, with Durman by far the best of the bowling attack with figures of 7-41.

In the run chase, Durman top scored with 44, as Ryde were dismissed for 210 to lose by 90 runs.

Shanklin & Godshill moved up to seventh in Hampshire 3 (South) with a comfortable 130-run victory over unbeaten Verwood at Westhill.

Ross Le Sueur was man of the match — pitching in with a handy 30 runs in their competitive total of 264-6, with Harry Collier (74) and captain, Ben White (58) batting superbly.

Verwood's batting struggled throughout, with Le Sueur bagging 5-40, well supported by Harry Moore (3-41).

Meanwhie, in Hampshire 4 (South), Ventnor II moved to top spot after Steep II conceded before a ball was bowled.

Ryde II continued their decent form with a 42-run win over Hythe and Dibden II at Harding Shute.

Ryde posted a decent looking 251-7, with great knocks by Andy Day (77) and Lee Hailes (71 not out) subduing the visitors' bowling.

Hythe & Dibden were bowled out for 209, with Mark Tuckwell (3-32) and Ian Hailes (3-33) doing the damage.

In Group 1 of the Isle of Wight Senior Cup, Northwood beat St Helens by four wickets in an entertaining match.

Northwood were bowled out for a creditable 255 — Chris Williams (84) and John Jones (78) top scoring, with Ollie Stubbings taking 4-68.

St Helens were well contained by Northwood's bowling after Lee Brown hit a superb 95, eventually stalling to 226-6.

In Group 2, Cowes beat Freshwater (189-6) by four wickets.

Ventnor's third team beat Shanklin II by 53 runs to reach next month's final of the Isle of Wight Second and Third Team Cup.

Toby Noyes (50), Charlie Turpin (45 not out), Jack Powell (37 not out), top scored in Ventnor’s total of 216-4 from 35 overs.

Andy White (34) and Archie Lucy (37) were the principal run-makers for the visitors, who replied with 163 — Jake Toulson (3-21) and Jack Powell (2-27) amongst the wickets for the home side.
