THE POOR results lately for Isle of Wight continued with their fifth defeat in the past seven games against a strong Aldershot and Fleet side who were better in all departments on Saturday.

ALDERSHOT & FLEET 59, ISLE OF WIGHT 7

The Island team, plagued by injuries and illness, was stripped bare with just 16 fit players available for the encounter — but they put in a spirited effort.

An improved Aldershot and Fleet side, fresh from beating Ventnor the previous week, were strong throughout.

Despite their best efforts, Isle of Wight were outmatched in every department.

Their tenacity was eventually rewarded with the final score of the game.

This came following a series of powerful drives from Keith Wallace and Tom Turtle which drew repeated infringements from Aldershot and Fleet, which eventually led to a penalty try.

Looking ahead, Isle of Wight hope for the return of some of their key players for their league match against Overton on Saturday, April 6.

In the meantime, the club is set to host a centenary game, at Wootton Rec, on Saturday.

A club side will compete against an Isle of Wight RFC President's XV at 2.30pm, preceded by a mixed touch game and a Vectis RFC U10s exhibition game at 1.30pm.

Proceeds from a raffle will benefit MNDA IW. All are invited to join the games and the centenary celebration festivities.
