Two Isle of Wight runners will represent England in the British Masters International 10k race in Birmingham, on May 5.

While Dave Hunt and Charlie Metcalfe were respectively the first man and woman to finish for the Ryde Harriers running club in Sunday's London Marathon, they had already qualified for the British Masters.

The pair ran the Brighton 10k in November, and both achieved their times to finish third.

Next month, Dave will compete in the M40 group and Charlie will run in the W45 category, running for their country against those from the other home nations.

Set up by England Athletics, the Masters events recognise that most of those who are members of road running clubs are aged over thirty-five years.

Charlie Metcalfe has won multiple Island Games medals and has previously run for England at the Masters.

Dave Hunt is new to the Masters competition but is no stranger to racing.

At the Fleet Half Marathon last month, he recorded a huge personal-best finish time of 73 minutes 27 seconds.

He came first in the Men’s 40 category and 29th overall, in a field of around 4,000 athletes.
